Website design in Sacramento for a capital city economy

For consultants, contractors, caterers and shops whose customers include the state and the people who work for it. A free demo comes first.

In most cities, a small firm sells to households and other small firms. In Sacramento, a lot of them also sell to the government, or to the tens of thousands of people who work for it. Good website design in Sacramento reflects that: a consultant bidding on state work needs a different site than a taqueria on Del Paso Boulevard, and both are part of the same capital city economy. Dominion Web Design Pro writes every page by hand for the business in front of it, shows you a free demo before you pay, and charges once.

Website design in Sacramento when the state is the biggest customer in town

The City of Sacramento says it has a higher concentration of government jobs per capita than anywhere else in California. A 2019 regional workforce study, using 2017 data, counted almost 90,000 state government jobs in Sacramento County alone, part of roughly a quarter of all state government jobs in California held in the six-county region.

That shapes the private economy around it. Engineering and IT consultants, printers, caterers, janitorial and facility firms, trainers and translators all sell to agencies. Then there are the businesses that serve state workers directly: lunch spots near the Capitol, dry cleaners, gyms, child care, tax preparers. Each group needs a site that speaks to its own buyer.

California's Small Business certification, explained plainly

The state's Department of General Services runs a Small Business certification through its Office of Small Business and DVBE Services. To qualify, a business must be independently owned and operated, not dominant in its field, have its principal office in California with its owners or officers living in the state, and, together with affiliates, have 100 or fewer employees and average annual gross receipts of $19 million or less over the previous three tax years. A small business holding the certification with gross receipts of $6 million or less is automatically designated a microbusiness. DGS adjusts those dollar limits every two years.

Why firms bother: under DGS policy each state department sets an annual goal of at least 25% small business participation in its contracting, and at least 3% for disabled veteran business enterprises. Small businesses holding the certification can receive a 5% bid preference against firms that are not. Applications and the public search of firms that hold it both live in Cal eProcure, which is where a state buyer checks a vendor's status.

  • If you hold a certification, say which one on your About or Capabilities page and keep it current.
  • Describe your services in the plain words a contract analyst would search for, not in internal jargon.
  • Give buyers a capabilities page they can forward: services, service area, past project types, contact.
  • Never claim a certification you do not hold. Buyers check.

To be completely clear: Dominion Web Design Pro is based in Texas and does not hold this certification. We can build the site that explains yours; we cannot count toward an agency's small business goal.

Sacramento web design for the people who work for the state

The other half of the capital economy is retail and service. A state worker downtown has an hour for lunch, a list of errands, and a phone. Restaurants, salons, repair shops and clinics in the central city and the commuter suburbs compete for that hour. What wins is unglamorous: a menu as real text, current hours, the closest parking, and a call or order button that works with one thumb.

Professional offices that serve state employees, such as insurance agents, tax preparers, financial planners and family law attorneys, sell trust instead of speed. Their sites need real names, real photos, a clear list of what they handle, and an easy way to book a first call.

Farm to fork is a real local industry, and it needs real pages

In 2012 then Mayor Kevin Johnson declared Sacramento "America's Farm-to-Fork Capital," an idea brought to Visit Sacramento by local restaurateur Josh Nelson and grounded in how close the city sits to farmland. Festival events followed starting in 2013. For the restaurants, caterers, bakers, growers and specialty food makers behind that label, the website does practical work: say where the food comes from in specific terms, keep the menu and hours current, and make catering and event inquiries easy.

A caterer's inquiry form, for instance, should ask for the date, headcount, location and budget range up front, so you can quote from the first message instead of the third email.

From Midtown to Elk Grove: the places customers name

Residents search by neighborhood. Midtown sits just east of downtown; East Sacramento lies beyond it with McKinley Park; Land Park centers on William Land Park south of the central city; and Oak Park sits between Midtown and Land Park. The R Street corridor, a few blocks south of the Capitol, grew up as a warehouse district along the Sacramento Valley Railroad, which began running to Folsom in 1856, and its old buildings now hold restaurants and galleries. Up north, the City of Sacramento has offered grants of up to $240,000 for storefront improvements to North Sacramento businesses along Del Paso Boulevard.

Beyond the city, which the California Department of Finance put at about 520,000 people in January 2024, the suburbs are large towns of their own: Elk Grove at about 179,000, Folsom at about 88,000 and Rancho Cordova at about 82,000, with Roseville across the line in Placer County. A landscaper in Elk Grove or a contractor working Folsom and Rancho Cordova wins work town by town. Google says local results weigh relevance, distance and prominence; a page that plainly says what you do in Folsom is relevant to a Folsom search in a way a single "serving the Sacramento area" line is not.

That is where city pages help. Pro includes ten of them, each written about that town. Agency researches your whole service area first and builds a page for every worthwhile town and service pair, usually 30 to 60 pages, delivered in waves with the first live inside two weeks. We do not sell page counts; a page exists because a search needs it.

Choosing a package as a Sacramento firm

A consultant who mainly needs a credible home for a capabilities statement can usually start with Starter at $497: five hand-written pages, a contact form that emails every lead, map and hours, titles and a sitemap submitted to Google, live in 7 to 14 days. A restaurant group or home service company covering several suburbs is usually better served by Pro at $997, which adds a photo gallery, Google Business Profile setup, schema markup, your Google reviews on the site, the ten city pages and an AI chat widget that is free for 14 days, then $297 a month. Agency at $1,997 adds the keyword research, the larger page build, custom design and AI phone agent setup; the agent is free for 7 days and then $297 a month for up to 750 minutes, not part of the one-time price. Full details are on the pricing page.

Remote, and honest about it

Straight answer on location: Dominion Web Design Pro has no office in Sacramento. Maurice Johnson builds every site from Big Sandy in East Texas and delivers it remotely, by link, phone and email.

A state buyer reads your site, not ours, so what matters is that your pages are accurate and specific. You supply the facts about your firm; Maurice turns them into pages you approve one by one.

Common questions

Is there a Sacramento web design agency that publishes its prices?

We are not a Sacramento agency, but our prices are public: $497 for Starter, $997 for Pro and $1,997 for Agency, one time. Hosting, maintenance and updates are included while you keep the AI agent, or $49 a month without it. Whoever you hire, ask for the total in writing before you sign.

How much does web design in Sacramento, CA cost?

It ranges from a monthly builder subscription to five figures for a large custom project. A small business site from Dominion Web Design Pro costs $497, $997 or $1,997, paid once. Pro's AI chat widget is free for 14 days and then $297 a month; Agency's AI phone agent is free for 7 days and then $297 a month for up to 750 minutes, cancel any time.

Should my website mention my California Small Business certification?

If you hold it and you sell to state agencies, yes. State buyers can look up firms that hold it in Cal eProcure, but a clear line on your site, with the certification type and the services you provide in plain words, helps a buyer who finds you first through a search. Only list a certification you actually hold and keep it current.

Does Dominion Web Design Pro hold California Small Business certification?

No. We are based in Texas, we do not hold California's Small Business certification, and we cannot help you meet a state small business participation goal. If your contract requires a California small business with state certification to build the website itself, hire one.

Do you build websites for Sacramento restaurants and caterers?

Yes. A restaurant or caterer needs a menu that loads as text, current hours, a map, and for caterers a simple inquiry form that asks for date, headcount and location. We write those pages by hand from a conversation with you and show you a free demo first.
