What affordable website design for small business should mean
Affordable website design for small business should mean a fair, fixed price for a site that does its job, not the lowest possible number with the real costs hidden further down the road. Our lowest price is $497, paid once, for a five-page site written by hand. That is a real website. It is also a small one, and this page is about being clear on the difference.
Owners looking for an inexpensive website often run into two extremes. One is a few thousand dollars from an agency. The other is "free" from a builder that turns into a subscription. Neither is wrong for everyone. The point of this page is to show where a low one-time price sits between them and what you give up to get it.

What $497 actually buys
The Starter package is the affordable option, so here it is without the sales gloss. Each line below is in the package, and nothing else is.
- Five pages. Home, services, about, contact and service area.
- Words written for your business. Maurice writes every page by hand from what you tell him and what is already online about you. No template text with your name swapped in.
- A site that works on any screen. Phones, tablets and desktops.
- A contact form that emails you every lead. Tested before launch.
- The search basics. Page titles, descriptions and a sitemap submitted to Google.
- Map and hours. Google Maps and your hours on the page.
- Social links. Your Facebook and Instagram connected.
- Live in 7 to 14 days, and you own it outright.
What a low price leaves out
Every affordable web design offer leaves something out. Ours leaves out these, and it is better to know now than after launch.
Not in Starter, available in Pro or Agency
- A photo gallery and pages six through ten
- Lead capture on every page instead of only the contact page
- Schema markup and Google Business Profile setup
- City pages for the other towns you serve
- Your Google reviews shown on the site
- Keyword research and a custom design for your brand (Agency)
Not part of any package
- An online store with a product catalog, cart and checkout
- A monthly content or SEO retainer
- Paid ads management
- Promises of rankings or a number of leads, which nobody honest makes
- Hosting after launch, which is $49 a month unless you keep the AI agent
The monthly builder trap, in plain numbers
Subscription builders advertise a low monthly price, and the price is real. In October 2026 Wix's Light plan is listed at about $17 a month and Squarespace's Basic plan at about $19 a month, both when billed for a year up front, with month-to-month billing costing more. Squarespace raised its prices in July 2026, which is a good reminder that these numbers change. Check the builders' own pricing pages before you decide.
The trap is not the fee. It is three things that come with it:
- It never endsStop paying and the site goes offline. Over five years, the plans above add up to roughly $1,000 to $1,150, more if you move up a tier along the way.
- You rent the site, not own itThe design and pages live inside that platform. Wix and Squarespace both say in their own help centers that a site's design cannot be moved to another host, so leaving usually means rebuilding.
- The writing is still your jobThe builder gives you a layout with sample text. Turning that into clear pages about your services and your towns is the hard part, and it is the part that gets left half done.
To be fair about our side: hosting here is $49 a month if you do not keep the AI agent, which is more than the cheapest builder plan. What the difference pays for is a finished, hand-written site that belongs to you, plus someone to call when something on it needs changing. If you have the time and like doing it yourself, a builder may well be the better deal. The website builder versus web designer guide goes through that choice in detail.

Honest tradeoffs of a low-cost site
A low cost web design service saves money by doing less, so the question is what it does less of. Some cut the writing and fill pages with generic copy. Some cut testing, so forms break and phone numbers do not tap. Some cut ownership, keeping the domain in their name so leaving costs you.
We cut size instead. Starter is five pages, not fifteen. It uses a clean layout rather than a custom design. It covers your home town, not every town around it. Those are limits you can see and plan around before you buy.
What does not get cut at any price: hand-written words, a working form, a site that reads well on a phone, and a domain registered to you.
How to judge any affordable web designer
Whoever you hire, cheap website design for small business goes well when the answers to a few questions are clear before money moves. Ask these, and write the answers down.
| Question to ask | A good answer | Our answer |
|---|---|---|
| Who registers and owns the domain? | You do, in the business's name | You do |
| Who writes the words? | A named person, not a template | Maurice Johnson, by hand |
| What does it cost after launch? | A stated monthly figure, or none | $49 a month, or included with the AI agent |
| Can I see it before I pay? | A preview or a sample built for you | Yes, the free demo |
| What happens if I leave? | You take the site and domain with you | You own the site outright |
| Do you promise rankings? | No | No |
A designer who dodges any of those questions is not affordable, whatever the first invoice says. The guide to hiring a web designer has more questions worth asking.
Ways to keep the cost down without cutting corners
The cheapest website is the one that only has to be built once. A few things on your side make that far more likely, whoever builds it.
- Start with the size you need today. If nearly all your work is in one town, a five-page site is enough. Pages can be added later; paying now for pages you will not use is the opposite of affordable.
- Gather your own photos first. Phone pictures of your truck, your counter, your finished work and your team at work beat stock images, and they cost nothing.
- Write down your services and towns. A plain list of what you do, what you do not do and where you go saves rounds of back and forth.
- Register the domain yourself. Do it in the business's name at a registrar you can log into. It is a small yearly cost and it keeps you free to change designers.
- Grow in steps. More pages can come later, once the business reaches more towns and has more to say. Ask about it when the time comes.
None of this needs technical skill. It is the same homework a good designer would ask for anyway, and having it ready is the surest way to get a low-cost site live in the 7 to 14 days Starter allows.
The three packages
Starter is the affordable professional web design option. Pro and Agency cost more because they do more, not because the first one is a teaser. Full detail for each is below, and the pricing page compares them line by line.
Starter
$497 one-time
For a business that needs a clean, working website and nothing complicated.
- 5-page website: home, services, about, contact and service area
- Every page written for your business by hand, never filled into a template
- Works on phones, tablets and desktop
- Contact form that emails you every lead
- Page titles, descriptions and sitemap submitted to Google
- Google Maps and your hours on the page
- Links to your Facebook and Instagram
- Live in 7 to 14 days
- You own it outright
Pro Most Popular
$997 one-time
For a business that wants the website to bring in calls from more than one town.
- Everything in Starter, plus:
- 10-page website with a photo gallery
- Lead capture on every page, not only the contact page
- Local SEO: schema markup and Google Business Profile setup
- 10 city pages, each town researched, then written from scratch
- Your Google reviews displayed on the site
- AI chat widget that answers visitors 24/7 and takes their name and number: free for 14 days, then $297/mo
Agency
$1,997 one-time
For a business that wants to cover its whole service area, town by town.
- Everything in Pro, plus:
- Keyword research across your whole service area first
- A hand-written page for every town-and-service combination the research says is worth having, usually 30 to 60 pages
- Pages delivered in waves, the first ones live inside two weeks
- Custom design for your brand
- AI phone agent setup. The agent itself is free for 7 days, then $297/mo for up to 750 minutes, cancel any time (not part of the one-time price)
Hosting, maintenance and updates are included while you keep the AI agent. Without it, they are $49/mo.
We do not sell page counts. Every page on every plan is researched and written by hand for your business and your town. That is slower than generating a few hundred pages from a template, and it is the reason these pages get read. If the research says your service area needs thirty pages, you get thirty good ones rather than a hundred thin ones.
About the phone line: (903) 636-7511 is answered any hour by an AI receptionist. Ask about a website preview, or ask for Maurice or a person, and it transfers you to Maurice.
The cheapest way to find out whether we are a fit is the free demo. It costs nothing and you see a site built for your business.
