Web design San Jose neighborhood shops can use, not just tech companies

Most San Jose businesses are bakeries, salons, studios and repair shops, not startups. Get a free demo of a site written for yours before you pay a cent.

Or call (903) 636-7511. Our AI receptionist answers any hour and can put you through to Maurice.

Web design San Jose owners actually need has very little to do with the headlines about chips, AI and venture rounds. Behind those stories is a big city of ordinary neighborhood businesses: a bakery in Willow Glen, a nail salon off Story Road, a framing shop in SoFA, a mechanic in Alum Rock. They need a site that a neighbor can find on a phone, read in a minute and call from with one tap.

That is the kind of site Dominion Web Design Pro builds. Maurice Johnson writes every page by hand, you see a free demo before paying, and the price is one of three printed numbers: $497, $997 or $1,997, one time.

Web design San Jose businesses need in the Bay Area's largest city

San Jose is the most populous city in the Bay Area and in Northern California, with close to a million residents. A city that size does not have one shopping district. It has dozens of small ones, and customers think in those names, not in "San Jose." Here are a few, with what a website for a business there should keep in mind.

Japantown

One of only three surviving historic Japantowns in the United States, alongside San Francisco's and Los Angeles's, and the youngest of the three. In December 2025 the California Arts Council named it a California Cultural District, for 2026 through 2030. A shop here has history on its side and should say so.

Willow Glen

Southwest of downtown, with Lincoln Avenue as its main street and, by the city visitor bureau's count, more than 250 businesses along it. A site for a business here should name the street and the cross street.

SoFA

The South First Area, centered on three blocks of South First Street between Reed and San Carlos. Independent businesses adopted the name in the early 1990s, and the monthly South First Fridays art walk still draws evening crowds. Galleries and bars here need event dates that are actually current.

Story Road

The stretch of Story Road near McLaughlin Avenue is widely known as Little Saigon, the center of the city's large Vietnamese American community. What to call the district officially was a long city council fight in 2007 and 2008, but customers use the Little Saigon name when they search.

Alum Rock and Berryessa

East and north San Jose neighborhoods, with Little Portugal inside Alum Rock and the Berryessa Flea Market to the north. Service businesses here often draw from the whole East Side, so a page per area they cover makes sense.

Santana Row

A mixed-use shopping and residential district on the west side, between Stevens Creek and Winchester Boulevards. A small shop near a district this busy needs a page that makes clear where it is and how to reach it.

One owner, one search, start to finish

An illustration, not a client: a bakery owner on Lincoln Avenue who has only ever had a social media page.

A family new to Willow Glen searches "birthday cake near me" on a Saturday morning. Google shows a map with three pins. Two of the bakeries have websites with their hours, a cake order form and photos of real cakes. The third, ours in this story, shows only a social page with posts from last month and no hours. The family taps one of the other two.

Now give that bakery a five-page site. The home page says what it bakes and that it is on Lincoln Avenue. A cakes page lists sizes, flavors and how many days' notice it needs. The contact page has the hours, a map and a form that emails every order request to the owner. Nothing fancy. It simply answers the questions the family had before they had to ask, and that is often the difference between a call and a scroll past.

That is the Starter package at $497, live in 7 to 14 days, and the owner owns it outright.

Website design in San Jose that wins the map

Google says local results turn mostly on relevance, distance and prominence: how well a listing matches the search, how close it is, and how well known the business is. In a city spread across this much ground, distance settles a lot by itself; a dentist in Evergreen is rarely shown to someone searching in North San Jose.

Relevance is where a website pulls its weight. A page that names your neighborhood, lists your actual services and matches your Google Business Profile gives Google something specific to work with. Pro includes Google Business Profile setup and schema markup for exactly that reason. It cannot promise a top spot, and neither will we.

Designer, company or agency: what each one means in San Jose

People search for a San Jose web design company, a web design agency, a website designer or web development, often for the same small job. The words point at different kinds of help.

  • Web design agencyA team: strategy, design, copy, development and account management. Right for a brand with a large budget and many moving parts.
  • Web design companyOften a smaller shop with a few designers and developers. Prices vary widely; ask what is included and what is billed monthly.
  • Website designerOne person, usually responsible for the look and the pages. Ask who writes the words and who owns the finished site.
  • Web developmentThe engineering side: databases, custom features, integrations. Most neighborhood businesses need very little of it beyond a working contact form.

We sit in the third row. One person writes and builds each site, and you deal with him directly.

The three packages, side by side

Every plan is a one-time price, and each card has a link to the free demo if you would rather see your site first. We do not sell page counts: a few pages that answer real questions beat a pile of thin ones.

Starter

$497 one-time

For a business that needs a clean, working website and nothing complicated.

  • 5-page website: home, services, about, contact and service area
  • Every page written for your business by hand, never filled into a template
  • Works on phones, tablets and desktop
  • Contact form that emails you every lead
  • Page titles, descriptions and sitemap submitted to Google
  • Google Maps and your hours on the page
  • Links to your Facebook and Instagram
  • Live in 7 to 14 days
  • You own it outright

Agency

$1,997 one-time

For a business that wants to cover its whole service area, town by town.

  • Everything in Pro, plus:
  • Keyword research across your whole service area first
  • A hand-written page for every town-and-service combination the research says is worth having, usually 30 to 60 pages
  • Pages delivered in waves, the first ones live inside two weeks
  • Custom design for your brand
  • AI phone agent setup. The agent itself is free for 7 days, then $297/mo for up to 750 minutes, cancel any time (not part of the one-time price)

Hosting, maintenance and updates are included while you keep the AI agent. Without it, they are $49/mo.

We do not sell page counts. Every page on every plan is researched and written by hand for your business and your town. That is slower than generating a few hundred pages from a template, and it is the reason these pages get read. If the research says your service area needs thirty pages, you get thirty good ones rather than a hundred thin ones.

Common questions

How much do web designers charge for a website in San Jose?

There is no single local rate. Freelancers, small studios and Silicon Valley agencies all price differently, and many give a number only after a call. Our prices are printed: Starter is $497 for five pages, Pro is $997 for ten pages plus ten city pages, and Agency is $1,997 for research-led pages across your whole area, each paid once. Hosting, maintenance and updates add $49 a month. If you keep an AI agent (the Pro chat widget after its 14-day free trial, or the Agency phone agent after its 7-day trial), it is $297 a month and hosting is included in that.

Should I hire a San Jose web design company or a single website designer?

A company gives you a team and charges for it. A single designer gives you one person who does the work and answers the questions. We are the second kind: Maurice Johnson writes and builds every site himself. The trade-off is that he works from East Texas, so there are no in-person meetings in San Jose.

Do you also do web development in San Jose?

For a small business site, yes: the pages are designed, written and built, the contact form emails you every lead, and titles, descriptions, sitemap and schema are set up for search. Custom software such as a booking system tied to your own database or a large online store is a different kind of project, and our packages do not include it. We will say so before you buy.

Can a website designer outside San Jose, CA write about my neighborhood accurately?

Only if he asks you and checks the facts, which is how we work. You tell us the streets you are on, the parts of town your customers come from and what makes your shop different. Maurice researches the rest from public sources and you review every page before it goes live.

What should a San Jose shop put on its home page first?

What you sell, the neighborhood you are in, your hours and a phone number that dials on one tap. Then one sentence on why a customer should choose you over the shop a mile away. Everything else can live one click deeper.
